Damn Jankes is booking shows and festivals throughout Virginia and regionally. Though new to the scene, each of us has performed hundreds of shows over the years. Dan Janke, who grew up in the Midwest, writes unapologetically old-fashioned – yet decidedly relevant – music that dwells deep in his memories. With a steady diet of rock ’n roll, pop, country, Memphis blues and Southern rock, his outpourings are a mélange (call it “Kitchen Sink Rock”) of the authentic sounds he grew up on. After playing mainly in Chicago and Indianapolis, Dan relocated to Virginia in 2013 and embarked on assembling a band, ultimately enlisting the tasteful playing of Denny Fohringer on guitar, creative bass work of David Mills, and a steady beat by Randy Reeves on drums and percussion. Several of Dan’s songs have had airplay in Indianapolis and Norfolk. Damn Jankes is an eclectic original/cover rock band – a “Kitchen Sink” stew of alt.country, roots rock, rock ’n roll, blues, shuffles, pop, and even a little reggae. We shake and stir it to keep the drinkers drinking and the dancers dancing. Depending on the venue’s needs, we can tailor our sets to be all original or more heavily cover-oriented. COVERS Bands we cover include: The Backsliders, The Beat Farmers, Beatles, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Bill Withers, Bruce Springsteen, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Dave Dudley, Dwight Yoakam, Elvin Bishop, Elvis Costello, John Lee Hooker, Joe Walsh, John Paul Keith, Johnny Cash, Johnny Rivers, Johnny Winter, Keith Richards, Loggins & Messina, Old 97s, Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, Steve Earle, Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Traveling Wilburys, Webb Wilder, Whiskeytown, The Who. DAN JANKE: GUITAR, VOCALS A Midwest kid, from Chicago and Indianapolis mainly, one of Dan Janke's earliest musical memories was hearing Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia" percolating from the radio while his mom sipped coffee at a neighbor's. On Saturdays while doing chores around the house, the 8-track usually spit out something by either Simon & Garfunkel, Glen Campbell, John Denver or Neil Diamond. That gave way to his and his siblings' 45s, albums and cassettes. Being the middle of five kids, it ranged from Abba to AC/DC, Bee Gees to Beatles, The Cars to Creedence Clearwater Revival ... and his tastes continued to diversify over the years. Music has always been the one common thread, playing in the background of all his memories. Dan has played for crowds from three to 3,000 in several Midwest bands, including The Risk and Scuba on Tuesday in the Chicago area, and Traffic Jam Zombies and whoa!tiger in Indianapolis. He formed Damn Jankes after setting roots in Virginia. DENNY FOHRINGER: GUITAR, VOCALS Denny Fohringer is a guitarist, singer, composer and music teacher.
