Jesse Chong

Jesse Chong

Jesse Chong is a do it yourself singer/songwriter who exemplifies the modern spirit of the self-reliant musician. Chong has independently recorded and released two albums under his One Nation Records label, both of which were entirely written, performed, and produced in his bedroom studio. In the ten years that Jesse has been performing professionally he’s played well over 1000 shows in bars, venues, and festival stages. He continues to gig sometimes weeks in a row without a day off, earning him the unofficial title of Hampton Roads’ hardest working musician- as well as officially recognized accolades such as “Best Live Performer” by Portfolio Magazine and “Best Acoustic Act” by Ninevolt Magazine. In addition to his impressive one man solo show Jesse performs with his ensemble, dubbed “The Chong Band”, frequently all over Virginia and North Carolina. Jesse’s music covers a wide variety of genres including Reggae, Funk, Americana, and Pop/Rock making him a chimerical artist of the IPod generation and a favorite among Jam Band fans. He’s opened for top tier pop artists such as Snoop Dogg, Maroon 5, and INXS- reggae legends: Third World, Steel Pulse, and the Wailers- jam bands: Dark Star Orchestra, Particle, and the Derek Trucks Band- and classic rockers: Jefferson Airplane, The Neville Brothers, and WAR. This is only a sample of the impressive list of artists that Jesse Chong has shared the stage with and is a testament to the mass appeal of Jesse’s music. Jesse is frequently compared to Ben Harper, Sublime, and the Dave Matthews Band. In his hometown of Virginia Beach Jesse Chong is a household name and his popularity continues to grow across the states of Virginia and North Carolina. Jesse hopes to continue his grassroots effort with the release of a new independent album in 2012 followed by an expansion of his tour base across the east coast.
