710OIL began when Chris Johnson stole Vincenzo Mastropasqua from a hardcore/death metal band. Then Ian Switz saw an ad in a music store for a band needing a lead guitarist, and within weeks was a member. Shortly thereafter, Les Moseley, a longtime friend and audio technician, was called upon to take over as bass guitarist. In August 2007, they won the 100.5 MAX FM Battle of the Bands. In October of 2007, they released their first self-produced, full length album, No Name. In 2008, and 2009, they were nominated in Portfolio Weekly’s Hampton Roads Music Awards for Best Local Metal/ Hard Rock, and Best Live Performance. WINNERS of the 2010 Guitar Center/KISS Contest they were hand picked from a handful of finalists by KISS to open for them at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater. In 2011 they were nominated in the Veer Local Music Awards for Best Hard Rock, and Best Live Performance. They've shared the stage with several heavy hitters such as Pop Evil, Veer Union, Otherwise, Gemini Syndrom, Dokken, Apocalyptica, Steel Panther, Adrenaline Mob, Bam Margera, Nonpoint, and Buckcherry to name a few. Every show combines music loved by all with an energy matched by none. Simply put, no song sounds the same, yet each song sounds like 710OIL.
